Limerick City and County Council hereby gives notice of an application to An Bord Pleanala for approval of rehabilitation works to the 7-arch Bruree Bridge in Co. Limerick. This project involves bridge rehabilitation with no demolition or new build elements.
Application Background Pursuant to section 177AE of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) and the requirements of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended), Limerick City and County Council proposes to make an application for approval to An Bord Pleanala for rehabilitation works at Bruree Bridge in Co. Limerick.
A Natura Impact Statement (NIS) has been prepared in respect of the proposed development. The Board may give approval to the application with or without conditions or may refuse the application for development.
Project Details Bruree Bridge is located in the small village of Bruree in Co. Limerick, approximately 6km northwest of Killmallock. The works will take place on the bridge section of the R518 that crosses the River Maigue in the village. The surrounding area is predominantly agricultural.
The Screening for Appropriate Assessment Report identified potential impacts on the Lower River Shannon SAC due to:
Water quality concerns
Disturbance to wildlife

While neither site has optimal lamprey/salmonid spawning habitat, mitigation measures will be implemented to prevent disruption. Works shall be carried out outside the breeding season for lamprey (brook and river) and salmonids.
