Construction Training: Programme for Media

The Public Consultation Institute of Ireland (PCII) is launching ‘Construction Training: Programme for Media’, a pilot programme designed to increase media access and transparency to some of Ireland's most important development and infrastructure projects, with a view to enhancing community awareness of upcoming and ongoing projects, and increasing participation in local placemaking.

Programme Overview

This innovative pilot programme will take an initial cohort of 12 national and regional media personnel (selected by editors within their respective outlets), through a series of training in construction fundamentals. Participants will gain knowledge and insights into:

  • Pre-planning and planning practicalities

  • Construction contracts

  • Change orders

  • Cost control mechanisms

  • Project delivery methods

  • On-site safety protocols

  • Other aspects of project delivery

Participants will receive

  • Safe Pass certification

  • Regular project briefings

  • Regular group access to active construction sites of local and national importance

  • Access to project delivery partners for expert commentary

Our Commitment

While this approach is experimental, the PCII multidisciplinary team members are dedicated to placemaking best practice, ensuring adherence to the principles of the New European Bauhaus: Beautiful - Sustainable - Together

The Public Consultation Institute of Ireland (PCII) is committed to engaging citizens and empowering communities through the use of emerging technologies, which are transforming how the Government and citizens communicate and interact. PCII’s mission is to bring more people into the public participatory process. Not only will this expand informed public engagement, early studies suggest that it is likely to enhance the diversity and quality of participation.
