Cork Docklands Road Network and Urban Renewal Scheme
Closing Date: 5pm, Monday 10th March 2025
Cork City Council has launched a public consultation on the Cork Docklands to City Centre Road Network Improvement Scheme, aimed at enhancing connectivity between the South Docklands and city centre while prioritising sustainable transport options.
The comprehensive scheme proposes several key improvements including widened footpaths, enhanced public lighting, contra-flow bus lanes, two-way cycle tracks, and upgraded junction configurations. The plans emphasise pedestrian and cyclist safety with new crossing facilities at all junctions and upgraded bus stops throughout the network.
Specific proposals include replacing the Victoria Road/Centre Park Road roundabout with a signal-controlled junction, creating a new residential access link between Marina Terrace and Rosefield Terrace, and modifying Kennedy Quay access arrangements. These changes aim to support the broader rejuvenation of the Docklands area.
Lord Mayor Dan Boyle highlights that this project is part of a larger initiative to expand cycling infrastructure and public transport across Cork city, particularly focusing on future Docklands residents' needs. The public can review the full plans and submit their feedback through the council's consultation portal at consult.corkcity.ie
