Public Consultation: Ardán Féachana Shliabh Liag / Sliabh Liag Viewing Platform
Closing Date: 2nd April 2025
Donegal County Council, in conjunction with the Sliabh Liag Company, hereby gives notice of a Non-Statutory Public Consultation regarding:
Proposed Enhancement of the Viewing Platform at Sliabh Liag, County Donegal
The proposed development consists of the following:
Replacement of the existing timber viewing platform along the Sliabh Liag View Walk
Design and construction of a new, well-designed viewing platform
Implementation of safety improvements for all users
Enhancement of the visitor experience at one of Ireland's premier tourist attractions
Sliabh Liag is one of the tallest cliffsides in Europe, reaching 601m high over the Atlantic Ocean. This attraction is the top visited destination within County Donegal and is listed as a Discovery Point along the Wild Atlantic Way.
The existing viewing platform requires consistent maintenance and does not currently meet visitor expectations. The proposed enhancement aims to provide a safer and more comfortable experience for all users while enabling them to appreciate the natural beauty of the area. The new platform design will consider materials and form to minimize impact on the highly sensitive environment and ensure efficient management of the area.
Funding for this scheme has been sourced from Fáilte Ireland under the Shared Island Programme for Government.
